Team India opener Shubman Gill rose up in the ICC ODI ranking after his brilliant 67 off 62 balls in his side’s 10-wicket win over Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023 Group A match. Gill and Rohit Sharma’s 147-run partnership ensured that Team India qualified for the Super 4 stage in a rain-hit contest at the Pallekele International Stadium.
Gill has risen to number three position in the ICC ODI Players Ranking with 750 points, up one position from last week. Pakistan captain Babar Azam continue to be in No. 1 position with 882 points while South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen is in second spot with 777 points.
Team India duo of Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma are in 10 and 11 position respectively. Kohli failed with the bat in the rained-off Asia Cup 2023 encounter against Pakistan last week, dismissed for just 4. Rohit Sharma smashed 74 off 59 balls in the win over Nepal.
Shubman Gill has moved to No.3 in the ODI Rankings with 750 Rating.

Gill became the fastest batter to complete 1,500 runs in ODI cricket breaking the record of former South Africa batter Hashim Amla. The Gujarat Titans opener took 29 innings to reach the landmark while Amla took 30 innings. Ryan ten Doeschate (Netherlands) and George Bailey (Australia), who took 32 ODI innings each to reach 1500-run mark in ODIs follow Amla on the list.
The Indian batter surpassed Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq, who slipped to No. 4 position in the ICC ODI ranking. Babar Azam can strengthen his position at the top as Pakistan team faces Bangladesh in the first Super 4 match in Asia Cup 2023 in Lahore on Wednesday. Babar had become the fastest batter to score 19 ODI hundreds after his brilliant 151 in the Asia Cup 2023 opener against Nepal in Multan.
“I was quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday. It was important for me to finish the game along with Rohit bhai and we did that. He (Rohit) is the kind of player who likes to take the bowlers on aerial,” Gill said after the match against Nepal.
“I am the kind of player who likes to hit more boundaries than aerial. That combination works quite well for us. (On Nepal’s bowling) They bowled very well with the new ball, they challenged us. We knew once the ball gets wet, it’ll get easier for the batsmen. That’s what the talk was in the dressing room,” Shubman Gill added.
In the ICC ODI bowlers ranking, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi moved up one place to 5th position with 659 points after his four-wicket haul against India in the Asia Cup 2023 match on Saturday last week. Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj is the highest-ranked bowler from his country at the No. 8 position with 652 points.
